Patrick Moloney, my paternal ggf, was born in 1838 in Woodford, Galway, he said, and that his parents were Michael Moloney and Julia Murphy, although I have never found a document to prove it. He came to New York and enlisted in the U.S. Army in October 1855, claiming to be 21 although he was obviously only 18. He was trained Ft, Monroe in Virginia and then sent to Washington to fight in the NW Indian Wars. He married Annie Higgins (q.v.) in Oakland, CA, and settled in Portland, Oregon and worked for the Army at Ft. Vancouver for the rest of his life.
